Introduction on my Web2.0 technology

I have chosen to research about Facebook. It is a new technology in web 2.0 that allows users to communicate by chatting and even video calling. I’ve chosen Facebook because it’s very popular all over the world.
Links I have found on Delicious relating Facebook:

Lots of people use Facebook in their everyday lives because it’s a major source of communication. Facebook is available on many devices like phones, laptops, computers, tablets and more. But, it’s not available in all countries or in all areas because they probably blocked the website. On Facebook you add friends and that’s how you communicate with other people. As I said before, you can chat and video call. Also, there might be apps on Facebook that allow you to send picture messages to each other. And, you can write on your friend’s wall instead of sending them a message.

Factors of Web 2.0 - 1

I don't think some Web 2.0 apps are the safest because for example you've got a Facebook account, you can be hacked from different ways. And this isn't something funny because it can lead to something serious. They could also mess with stuff on your account such as send people weird messages or do stuff that can get  you into trouble with other people.

What Web 2.0 suits us as a student?

As a student, I would say that blogs and wikis would be programs that suit me from Web 2.0. People post information on their blogs and wikis so when we do research, it’s easy for us to find what kind of information we are looking for. Also social websites like Facebook would also suit us as a student because if we have no contact with a person, we can contact them through Facebook.

Disadvantages of Web 2.0

  • There may be viruses.
  • Sometimes information may be public.
  • Some things take too long to load.
  • People may post rude comments or opinions.
  • Hackers can hack your account.

Benefits of Web 2.0?

  •  Information can flow freely. Internet users can easily express their  ideas and opinions on things without any fear or apprehension.
  • Internet becomes more personalized. (You can find anything on the internet).
  • Through this advanced  technology, they can easily acquire information that is tailored  according to their needs, interests and preferences.
  • It makes a website more userfriendly and functional.
  • Internet  users can easily navigate through the pages

What kind of people use Web 2.0?

Web 2.0 has been used by so many different people. It’s a web for all users because it could be used for different purposes. People like business men/women, parents, kids, teachers and teens use web 2.0.

Each user may use web 2.0 for different purposes. Business men/women may use it to collaborate information and keep their colleagues updated. Parents may use it to find a new job, search for schools and even research about new products.

How has Web 2.0 developed in today's society?

Web 2.0 has become more interactive and more collaborative. The web 2.0 has developed the web into a more social web. Web 2.0 has changed the amount of users that now use the internet compared to before. It also allows people to connect with each other instead of just reading information off your screen.

What is web 2.0?

Tim O’Reilly is the person who is generally credited for creating the term, Web 2.0. Web 2.0 is a second generation World Wide Web. It allows users to interact and collaborate with each other. It also allows people to share information. It could also be a place where you meet, read and write. Examples of Web 2.0 are: Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Edmodo, Blogs, Wikis, etc. The most famous examples of Web 2.0 today, are: Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.

My Evaluation

Although making an ambient LED mood lamp wasn't our original idea, we enjoyed working on it. It was challenging and it included a lot of technological knowledge but it was quite fun.

An ambient LED mood lamp can actually be very useful in real life. It could be a fun night stand or a table lamp. It doesn't use electricity so you can consider it as "energy saving".

Final Desicion

Me and my partner decided to make the LED Mood Lamp. We thought it would be interesting to make this lamp as we have never actually made something physical by ourselves. It might be more challenging than the camera but we are up for it. We're going to have as much fun as possible and hopefully it's good enough to get us into the Tech Fair.

Software and Hardware

SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE needed for our projects:

Pinhole camera:

  • A large piece of 5mm thick foam core board
  • A 2cm x 2cm flat piece of metal from a tin can
  • Three 35mm spools
  • A ballpoint pen
  • Black acrylic paint
  • A strong craft glue
  • A sharp knife for cutting through the foam core board
  • A metric ruler
  • A needle
  • A fine-grit sandpaper
  • A flashlight or electric torch
  • A metal straight edge to aid cutting

LED Mood Lamp:

  • Arduino UNO board (older boards should be compatible)
  • USB A and USB B connector cable
  • Arduino solder-less breadboard shield
  • 3 resistors (330 ohm)
  • Red LED
  • Blue LED
  • Green LED
  • Breadboard connector wire
  • White paper
  • Scissors
  • Tape

Peer Review - Wiki

I marked Uday's wiki and I was quite impressed. He could make some improvements but overall it was pretty good. As the total mark, he got a 5. That's good but I'm sure he can get a 6 if he makes all the improvements.

Strengths:
His home page was written in complete detail which amazed me. On him home page, I found a true reflection and description about him. He included three examples of his hobbies and interests and why he liked them. His personal statement was more than 3/4 paragraphs long. Uday's wiki was original and attractive because he changed the original colour to something more appealing. Also, he changed the original wiki picture to something different. On each page, he had a suitable heading so I knew what I was going to read about. Every subject that I read about reflected sensibly on a piece of work in full detail. The subjects EACH have one picture and EACH subject is longer than 4 paragraphs with a lot of detail. As a reader, I have understood what I was reading and I knew what Uday studied in term 1.

Weaknesses:
He didn't have many weaknesses but there were some that he could improve on. On his home page (personal statement) he needs to include examples of at least 2 things he dislikes and he also needs to discuss his family. Also, he didn't give examples of the places he has visited. Uday can improve on his grammar. Most of it was correct and accurate but not all of it. His wiki showed originality in the look and feel but could improve. Uday did NOT add 9 subjects to his pages. He only added around 6. And because of that, he lost quite a few marks. His page layout is awesome but it could have been more appealing to attract some attention.
